Description

April 20 (Renewables Now) - German asset manager Luxcara GmbH has struck a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ: AMZN) for a “significant” portion of the output of a 374-MW wind farm in northern Sweden.

The long-term deal will see the e-commerce giant get electricity from the Kallamossen wind park from 2023 onwards, Luxcara said on Tuesday. The power will be used for Amazon’s European operations.

The contract is part of a bunch of deals that Amazon announced on Monday for buying renewable electricity from roughly 1.4 GW of wind and solar projects globally. In Sweden, it said its newest investment concerns 258 MW of onshore wind capacity.

Amazon aims to reach its 100% renewable energy goal by 2025, five years earlier than initially planned. Among the latest contracted projects are also a 350-MW offshore wind farm off the coast of Scotland and over 170 MW of solar projects in Spain.
